Internship & Interprofessional Experiences

From Sept.- Dec. 2024 I had the pleasure of completing my recreation therapy student internship at the IWK Kids Rehabilitation Service. This outpatient service offered a unique internship experience which provided many opportunities for skill development and learning. This service works with children who have a variety of physical and intellectual disabilities and helps connect them with recreation and leisure opportunities through adapted equipment and resource navigation.

Internship Projects & Highlights

Academic Experiences/Projects

Throughout my undergraduate program I have had the opportunity to complete many interesting projects related to recreation therapy, leisure education, outdoor education, and mentorship.

Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) Project

This project is done in first, third, and fourth year. The purpose of this project is to have a leisure education program which is facilitated by two third year students for a group of first year participants. The third year students are mentored by fourth years who help assist them in creating session plans and providing feedback following the sessions to help improve the third years facilitation and programming skills. During my undergrad, I went through this project as a participant, facilitator, and mentor, giving me experience in all three roles. This involved professionalism, planning, implementation, documentation & evaluation, and administrative tasks.
